How Does A Certified Appraisal
Protect Me? Certification is now recognized by the Internal Revenue Service, which demands "Qualified Appraisers." According to the I.R.S.: "Appraisal
designation. An appraiser will be treated as having earned an
appraisal designation from a recognized professional appraiser
organization within them meaning of section 170(f)(11)(e)(ii)(1) of the
Pension Protection Act, 8/2006." Beware of what are called "lay appraisers." If a person claiming to be an appraiser does not have credentials from a known and established professional appraiser organization, they will not be recognized as qualified to prepare and submit appraisals. If an appraisal is legally challenged, the first issue brought up in court or in a hearing will be the appraiser's qualifications. If they do not have professional qualifications, the appraisal can be dismissed on the spot, sight unseen. Office Hours
